In countries around the world, including Japan, major natural disasters occur almost every year. FIDR promptly engages in "emergency relief activities" to help people in affected areas overcome evacuation life without compromising their physical and mental health. Subsequently, in places where cooperation for regional reconstruction is needed, FIDR works on "rehabilitation assistance".

Three keywords

To disaster areas, promptly

Entering disaster-stricken areas and staying close to the affected individuals is a crucial first step in conducting relief operations. We believe it's essential to always be on the ground because that's where the answers to what we should do will be found. FIDR promptly dispatches staff to disaster-affected areas to accurately assess the situation on the ground and provide assistance.

With the changing situation

In areas affected by natural disasters, the situation evolves rapidly. The required assistance starts with the rescue of survivors and progresses to medical activities, provision of food and essentials, and restoration of livelihoods. The living conditions of the affected individuals transition from shelters to temporary housing and eventually to permanent homes. Within this process, the thoughts and awareness of the affected individuals may undergo significant changes. Through discussions and collaboration with local authorities, relevant agencies, organizations, and residents, we accurately assess both current and future situations to provide the support that is truly needed.

For the reconstruction of disaster-affected areas

When a large-scale disaster occurs, not only are individual livelihoods affected, but also the social and economic foundations of communities are often devastated. Recovery from such devastation requires many years. FIDR takes a medium to long-term perspective on reconstruction, alongside efforts in education, healthcare, and community restoration. Depending on the situation, FIDR also provides support for rebuilding economic infrastructure, such as fostering industries.
